Clinical Decision Support Administration
You can use this page to turn on or turn off Clinical Decision Support (CDS) automatic consultations or alerts for your providers.
Automatic consultations are required by the Protecting Access to Medicare Act (PAMA). athenahealth provides integrated access to PAMA CDS guidance from Stanson Health.
On the Main Menu, click Settings > Clinicals. In the left menu, under Practice Links — Other, click Clinical Decision Support Subscriptions.
You must have the Clinical Decision Support Admin role to access this functionality.
- Display the Clinical Decision Support Administration: On the Main
Menu, click Settings > Clinicals. In the left menu, under Practice Links — Other, click Clinical Decision Support Subscriptions.
- Click edit next to the appropriate clinical decision support subscription.
The edit view for the subscription appears: - Subscription Enabled — Select Yes or No, to indicate if the subscription is enabled for the practice or not.
- Yes — athenaOne sends CDS guidance requests to the partner when providers enter orders.
- No — athenaOne does not send any CDS guidance requests to the partner.
- Rollout Type — Select how users will receive CDS guidance requests:
- All users visible guidance — athenaOne sends CDS guidance requests to the CDS Partner for all providers. The providers see the CDS guidance from the partner.
- All users silent tracking — athenaOne sends CDS guidance requests to the CDS Partner for all providers. The providers do not see the CDS guidance from the CDS partner.
Note: This setting is commonly used for integration testing with a CDS partner if required. - By user — You specify how specific users will or will not receive CDS guidance.
- Click Save.
A message appears on the Clinical Decision Support Administration page which shows that you successfully updated the subscription:- If you selected All users visible guidance or All users silent tracking, athenaOne updates the subscription for all providers. You don't have to take further action.
- If you selected By user, the Clinical Decision Support Administration page shows that there are no Silent Tracking Users and no Visible Guidance Users.

- If you selected All users visible guidance or All users silent tracking, athenaOne updates the subscription for all providers. You don't have to take further action.
- Display the Clinical Decision Support Administration: On the Main Menu, click Settings > Clinicals. In the left menu, under Practice Links — Other, click Clinical Decision Support Subscriptions.
- Click manage users next to the appropriate clinical decision support subscription.
Note: The manage users link is only available after you enable CDS guidance and select By User in the Rollout Type field. See To turn on or turn off CDS silent tracking or visible guidance alerts for all users for full instructions.
- Service mode — Select one of the following settings:
- Off
- Silent tracking
- Visible guidance
- User — Enter the first name, last name, or username of the user you want to set up for CDS guidance.
- Department — Select each department that has providers you want to set up for CDS guidance or click Select all.
- Click Filter.
The User Administration section appears below the Filter section. The Username column lists the providers that met the filter criteria. - Click Off, Silent Tracking, or Visible Guidance next to the appropriate provider.
- Click Save.
athenaOne updates the subscriptions for each user you specified.

CDS Hook |
Defines when athenaOne sends a CDS request to a partner.
The values are:

Subscription Enabled |
Indicates if the subscription is enabled for the practice. If the subscription is not enabled, athenaOne does not send any CDS guidance requests. |
Rollout Type |
Determines how the CDS subscription is set up.

Silent Tracking Users | Indicates the number of users that have silent tracking enabled. Silent tracking allows athenaOne to send CDS guidance requests to the CDS partner. The provider does not see the CDS guidance from the CDS partner. |
Visible Guidance Users | Indicates the number of users that have visible guidance enabled. Visible guidance allows athenaOne to send CDS guidance requests to the CDS partner. The provider sees the CDS guidance from the partner in the Decision Support panel. |
