Prep MAR medications in advance of surgery day

  1. In the Physician stage of the surgical case, click the add icon next to Diagnosis & Orders.

  2. Search for medication or med preference card by name and select it under MAR Orders.

  3. Review the medication(s) added in Medication Orders section under Drafts. Adjust as needed.

  4. On day of surgery, perform a final review in Drafts and click Enter.
    Once entered, medications move to the Active section and the MAR for administration. athenaOne flags nurse-entered orders as needs to be signed .

Enter new standing MAR medication(s) or orders as received

  1. In the Physician stage of the surgical case, click the add icon next to Diagnosis & Orders.

  2. Search for medication or med preference card by name and select it under MAR Orders.

  3. Review the medication(s) added in Medication Orders section under Drafts and click Enter.
    Once entered, medications move to the Active section and the MAR for administration. athenaOne flags nurse-entered orders as needs to be signed .

Discontinue an order

  1. In the Physician stage of the surgical case, in the Medication Orders section, under Active, hover your cursor to the right of the order you want to discontinue and click Discontinue.

  2. Complete the Discontinue fields and click Discontinue.
    The order moves under the Discontinued section and reflects as Discontinued in the MAR. athenaOne flags nurse-entered orders as needs to be signed .

Administer, edit, or delete a medication in the MAR

  1. In the Pre, Intra, or Post stage of the surgical case, click the arrow next to the stage name and select MAR from the dropdown menu.

  2. Click the time cell and:

    • Administer — Confirm the dose, date, and time, add optional details, and sign.

      Note
      For a started IV fluid or IV med (not a push), click the time cell marked Infusing to either add a new bag to continue the infusion or stop the infusion.

    • Edit — Click Edit, make updates as needed, and sign.

    • Delete — Click Edit and then click Delete Administration or Delete Bag.

You can view medication details by expanding the medication's row in the MAR flowsheet or by clicking the time cell for a recorded dose.

Access the following

  • Medication orders — In the Physician stage of the surgical case, under Medication Orders.

  • MAR — In the Pre, Intra, or Post stage of the surgical case, click the arrow next to the stage name and select MAR from the dropdown menu.

  • Surgical case MAR order and administration summary — In the patient chart, click the Find tab or Visits tab.
