athenaOne for Hospitals & Health Systems
athenaClinicals provides annotation tools which help reduce your documentation time.
Note: With athenaOne for Hospitals, outpatient departments have access to the annotation tools, but inpatient departments do not.

The annotation toolbar appears at the top of documents.
You can access the chart options without having to leave the annotation screen, for example in a Physician Authorization and Prescription type document.
Click the annotate link on any document in "REVIEW" and "HOLD" status. The document must be one of these file types:

- DCM

Date |
This tool adds your current day's date to the document. You can also edit the date manually or select from a calendar window. |

Text | This tool brings up a text box where you can manually type text. |

X-Mark | This tool adds an X mark to the document |
|
Box | This tool lets you draw a box on the document. |
|
Line | This tool lets you draw a line on the document. |
|
Check | This tool adds a checkmark to the document . |

Drawing | This tool lets you manually draw on the page. You're not confined to a single type (like lines or boxes). |

Erase | This tool lets you erase something that has been drawn and is only available when the Draw tool is selected. |
Click the erase icon that appears next to Draw option, to delete what was drawn on the document.

Note: You screen may appear differently with a resolution above or below 1280 in these workflows:
- Saving annotations
- Faxing documents
- Assigning documents for review.

- Click the drop down arrow next to Save & Next for selecting the appropriate options.
- Click Save & Back to save the document and return to the original document.
- Click Save & Next to save the document and move to the next document in the list.

- Click the drop down arrow next to Fax&Next for selecting the appropriate options.
- Click Fax & Back to fax the document and return to the original document.
- Click Fax & Next to fax the document and move to the next document in the list.

- Select the Assign to option.
- Type the practice user name to select them as assignee.
- Action note - you can enter any additional information or any action to be taken on the document.
- Click Assign & Back to assign the document to the practice user for review and return to the original document.

Click Assign & Next to assign the document to the practice user for review and move to the next document in the list.
Note: Check the Pin to Top box to display the Action Note and time stamp at the top of the document, in red font, where they are clearly visible without scrolling down.
The Annotation History option is only available when you have at least one annotation in the document.

Click Annotation History.
- Click the date in the Created on column to view the previously annotated version of the document.
- Click the View Latest version option from the pop-up window to view or edit the latest version of the document.
