User Guide — Flowsheets — Cardiovascular Risk
This flowsheet tracks analytes related to cardiovascular risk.
To view a flowsheet, click the flowsheet icon for a problem, a test result, or for vitals
You can view imaging results in the cardiovascular risk flowsheet on the Problems chart tab and in any other problem flowsheet that uses imaging results. athenaOne groups common cardiovascular clinical order types into clinical concepts. The following clinical concepts appear on separate timelines in the cardiovascular risk flowsheet:
- EKG
- Cardiac MRI
- Echocardiogram
- Cardiac CT Angiography
- Vascular Reports
- MUGA Scan
You can view ASCVD risk scores, for a 10-year period and for a patient's lifetime, based on the ASCVD Risk Estimator released by the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the American Heart Association (AHA). athenaOne calculates the score based on the most recent measurements for each input pulled directly from the chart. Following the ACC guidelines, these inputs are age, sex, race, total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, diabetes status, smoking status, and treatment for hypertension. On the Cardiovascular Risk flowsheet, you can view the variable values used in the risk calculation, as well as a link to the ACC/AHA guidelines.
ASCVD risk scores are calculated only for patients between the ages of 40 and 79 with values for systolic blood pressure, HDL, and Total Cholesterol where systolic is between 90 and 200, HDL is between 20-100, and total cholesterol is between 130 and 320.
The ASCVD Risk Estimator is intended as a companion tool to the 2013 ACC/AHA Guideline on the Assessment of Cardiovascular Risk and the 2013 ACC/AHA Guideline on the Treatment of Blood Cholesterol to Reduce Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Risk in Adults. For more information on the ASCVD, see the American Heart Association website.
The ASCVD Risk Estimator appears only when all the required inputs are present in the patient chart: age, sex, race, smoking status, HDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, and systolic blood pressure. If the patient chart includes information for diabetes status or hypertension treatment, this information is also used for the calculation.
Note: If the required lab values (for example, total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol) are manually entered into the flowsheet, the risk calculation will not work unless the lab values are entered with the appropriate units (for example, mg/dL).
- On the patient chart, click the Problems chart tab.
- Click the flowsheet icon next to cardiovascular risk under the Care Episodes & Tracking section.
- Click the 10-Year ASCVD Risk link to view the patient's risk scores, and the values used in calculating the scores, for a 10-year period and for the patient's lifetime.
- Click the Source links to view the 2013 ACC/AHA Guideline on the Assessment of Cardiovascular Risk in a new browser window.
