Preview Environment
athenaCollector, athenaClinicals, athenaCommunicator,
athenaOne for Hospitals & Health Systems
The athenaOne Preview environment contains specific customer contexts that are copied individually from production on-demand for various uses, such as:
- New customer onboarding or department adds
- Importing data from legacy systems and migrating data
- QA validation of a tablespace before going live in athenaOne
- Configuring workflows
- Building interfaces and APIs
- Release Preview – QA validation of a tablespace prior to going live on new features in an athenaOne release
Open this page: https://preview.athenahealth.com/ and log in with your athenaOne Production login and password.
Preview environments can be created and refreshed by athenahealth CSMs, Onboarding teams, Interface team, or others, based on customer need.
To request a Preview environment or refresh — please contact your CSM.
To request a Release Preview environment — please contact your CSM.
- Go to the Clinical Release Center or Billing & Administrative Release Center in the athenahealth Success Community.
Note: athenahealth publishes a Release Center about 30 days before each athenaOne major release. - Go to the Release Workspace section on the Release Center page, then click the link to go to the Release Workspace.
- Review the table of Features to find features that have "Y" in the Accessible in Preview Environment column.
- About 30 days before an athenaOne major release, you can start to:
- Review the features that will be accessible in your Release Preview environment.
- Review the Release Workspace table and release note details for any setup and configuration that may be needed before you can use the features.
- About 10 business days before an athenaOne major release, access your Release Preview environment.
- Configure any applicable new features to prepare for rollout to your organization.
- Test updates to your existing configuration and workflows and try new features before the release date to reduce potential disruption.
- See how new features or updates will actually affect your configuration and workflows
- Ensure that new features or updates will work with your existing integrations with third-party and internal IT systems
- Determine what changes you need to make to your workflows because of this release
- Facilitate discussions with leadership about whether to adopt a new feature
- Complete any necessary configuration for new features you are adopting
- Update or create new educational materials for staff based on changes in this release
- On the Main Menu, click Support and then click Create Case or Call.
- Click Additional Services and then click Release Center and Preview Support.
- Create an online case.
athenaOne customers with an already existing Preview environment can have an optional Release Preview context (one per customer account).
If your organization is enrolled for the Release Preview service offering, athenahealth enables new features in your Release Preview environment about 10 business days before each major athenaOne release so you can try out new features and prepare for rollout to your organization.

- Configure and test any applicable new features to prepare for rollout to your organization
