MSPQ Settings
This page allows you to administer your practice's Medicare as a Secondary Payer Questionnaire (MSPQ) directly. Using this page, you can create groups of MSPQ settings that you can apply to provider groups and departments.

On the Main
Menu, click Settings > Billing. In the left menu, under Practice Links — Miscellaneous, click MSPQ Settings

You must have the MSPQ Admin permission, which is included in the Billing Admin role and all roles that include the Billing Admin role. MSPQ Admin is also a standalone role that can be granted by the User Admin role.

All MSPQ setting groups must be mutually exclusive, that is, only one group of MSPQ settings can apply to a department. You cannot create overlapping setting groups.
Note: If you cannot create or undelete an MSPQ setting group, it means that the new setting group would conflict with another setting group. A good way to prevent these conflicts is to create setting groups that are administered at the provider group level.
- Display the MSPQ Settings page: On the Main
Menu, click Settings
> Billing. In the left menu, under Practice Links — Miscellaneous, click MSPQ Settings.
- Click Add new.
Additional fields appear. - Name — Enter the name of the MSPQ setting group.
- Provider group — Click All to select all provider groups, or click Selected and select the provider groups that will belong to this setting group.
- Department — Click All to select all departments, or click Selected and select the individual departments that will belong to this setting group.
- Require on check-in — Select Yes to require that the MSPQ be completed at check-in when Medicare is the secondary payer.
- Require on charge entry — Select Yes to require that the MSPQ be completed at charge entry when Medicare is the secondary payer.
- Require to complete workflow — Select Yes to require that the MSP qualifier match the order of insurances on the appointment and claim before check-in or charge entry can be completed. For example, if the qualifier states that Medicare is primary, it cannot be ordered as secondary on the claim.
- Require when Medicare is primary payer — Select Yes to require that the MSPQ be completed even if Medicare is the primary payer.
- Require completion of all fields — Select Yes to require that all visible fields on the MSPQ be completed (such as employment start date, which normally is not required).
- Prevent qualifier selection in appointment workflow — Select Yes to prevent users from selecting an MSP qualifier from the list of all possible qualifiers at charge entry. The MSPQ can be completed, and a qualifier will be populated, but the user will not be able to edit it. This does not necessarily mean that the MSPQ is required; however, the only way to arrive at the qualifier is by completing the full MSPQ.
- Treatment series restrictions — When this option is set to Yes, the MSP questionnaire is required if the patient has not had an appointment within 90 days. If a previous appointment falls within 90 days and a questionnaire was completed as part of that appointment, a qualifier can be selected.
- Note — Enter any additional notes about this MSPQ setting group.
- Click Save or Save and Add Another.
