To ensure a robust revenue stream, we recommend that practice managers and administrators review the Care Coordination Performance Review report on a monthly basis.

The first metric included in the Care Coordination Performance Review report is the Order Volume graph. This graph can help you answer questions such as:
- How many orders is my practice receiving each month?
- How is my order volume changing over time?
The Order Volume graph provides insight into the overall health of your orders business from athenaClinicals clients. The graph displays the total number of orders that your practice received from athenaClinicals providers during each month over a 6-month period.
Having a convenient way to track trends in order volume allows you to identify trends early and adjust your strategy to address decreases in order volume and to take advantage of new opportunities for growth.
Note: An order is defined as an individual instruction or authorization printed for submission or transmitted by athenahealth to the receiving provider or facility. These orders include consults, referrals, imaging studies, procedures, durable medical equipment, and pharmaceutical prescriptions. For laboratories, an order is an individual lab test, and a requisition is the set of tests that you can order for a single patient to be performed on the same date of service.

With the Care Coordination Performance Review report, you can take a closer look at factors that can affect your order volume, including:
- An increase or decrease in orders sent from a particular referring provider
- New clients joining athenahealth and choosing your organization to care for their patients
- Changes in how providers submit orders (e.g., verbally ordering a test versus submitting it via athenaOne)

The metrics shown on the Order Volume tab help you answer these key questions.

The Top Five Referring Providers table lists the five referring providers who sent the most referrals to your organization for the month. In addition, this table shows how the referral patterns of these providers are changing over time by including:
- Number of orders for previous month
- Number of orders for selected month
- Percent change in order volume compared with the previous month
- Number of orders for the same month of the previous year
You can use this information to strengthen the ties between your organization and your top five referring providers to increase the number of orders from these senders.

The Referring Providers with Reduced Order Volumes table lists providers who are referring significantly fewer patients to your organization. This table lists all providers whose orders to your organization decreased by 20% or more during the selected month. The table also shows the percentage by which orders dropped from each of these providers. Only providers who sent at least 15 orders are included in the table.
This metric shows you where you may be losing revenue in your referral business. You can then adjust your strategy to address these decreases in order volume.

The New Referring Providers for Month table lists referring providers who sent you orders for the first time in a given month. In this table, you can see:
- Name of referring provider
- How many orders the provider sent to your organization
- Specialty of referring provider
- Location (city and state) of referring provider
This metric helps you target your marketing efforts to build relationships with these referring providers and encourage them to route more orders to your organization.

The Top Five Receiving Facilities/Service Providers/Locations table lists the five facilities and service providers in your organization that received the most orders for the month. In addition, this table shows how the referral patterns of these facilities and service providers are changing over time by including:
- Number of orders received for previous month
- Number of orders received for selected month
- Percent change in order volume received compared with the previous month
- Number of orders received for the same month of the previous year
This metric helps you see positive trends in referral patterns and use this insight to take advantage of new opportunities for growth.

Labs typically review the number of requisitions, rather than the number of single orders, that they receive. The Laboratory Requisition Volume graph provides insight into the measure that means the most to labs — requisition volume — and, therefore, the overall health of your business from athenaClinicals clients.
This graphs displays the total number of requisitions that your lab or practice received from athenaClinicals providers during each month over a 6-month period. It also shows your year-over-year requisition volumes.
Use this graph to identify trends early and adjust your strategy to address decreases in requisition volume and take advantage of new opportunities for growth.

In the Order Submission Routes table, you can see how many orders you received via fax, phone, print, or through electronic means. Each method is shown as a percentage of the total orders.
If you want providers to send orders to you a different way, you can request or encourage them to send orders using your preferred method, and then use this report to track whether they are doing so.
