OB Lab Result Mappings

This page allows you to administer the mapping of analytes on OB lab results to the patient's OB episode form. To map OB lab results, your practice must have a live lab interface. After results come back, you can map them.

 

On the Main Menu, click Settings > Clinicals. In the left menu, under Practice Links — Other, click OB Lab Result Mapping

 

 

 

  1. Display the OB Lab Result Mappings page: On the Main Menu, click Settings > Clinicals. In the left menu, under Practice Links — Other, click OB Lab Result Mapping.
  2. Under the Result Type column, click the save as link for the mapping that you want to use as a template. The mapping details appear in the fields at the top of the page.
  3. Update the fields as needed.
  4. Click Save As. A new mapping is created.

  2. Under the Result Type column, click the update link for the mapping to update. The mapping details appear in the fields at the top of the page.
  3. Update the fields as needed.
  4. Click Update.

  2. Under the Result Type column, click the delete link for the mapping that you want to delete. A warning message appears.
  3. Click OK to delete the mapping or Cancel to preserve it. An undelete link appears so that you can restore deleted mappings.

 

 

 

With OB lab result mappings, athenaOne can automatically populate the required information on the OB episode form with the analyte values on the OB lab results, saving you the work of linking lab results manually.

 

Example: A CBC W/ AUTO DIFF result comes back for an OB patient, and all the appropriate analytes (for example, HCT, HGB, MCV) from that test must be linked to the lab flowsheet. Instead of manually linking results, the nurse has already set up lab result mappings so that the results are automatically populated into the patient's lab flowsheet.

 

 

To map OB lab results, you must have a live lab interface. After results come back, you can begin to map them.

 

 

The easiest way to find a list of active OB patients is to run the EDD List Report. You can use the OB Episode EDD List Generation page to generate a list of active OB patients. For each patient on the EDD list, display the patient chart, and review the Results section to find any lab results that require mapping.

 

 

 

The lab result contains information needed for the OB lab result mapping process: the name of the lab test, the name of the performing lab, and the pertinent lab analyte names.

 

Document the exact name of the lab test as it is listed in athenaOne (for example, CBC W/ AUTO DIFF). This name appears at the top of the document page.

 

Document the exact name of the performing lab as listed in the document header. Click view report header at the top of the result to reveal additional details, including the name of the performing lab.

 

Record the pertinent lab analyte names as listed in the Report column of the interfaced lab result (for example, HCT, MCV, HGB).

 

 

 

  1. Display the OB Lab Result Mappings page: On the Main Menu, click Settings > Clinicals. In the left menu, under Practice Links — Other, click OB Lab Result Mapping.
  2. Clinical provider — Enter the lab or imaging facility indicated on the lab result.
  3. Order type — Enter the name of the test as it is ordered in athenaClinicals.
  4. Result type — Select the requirement fulfilled by a particular test, which appears on the OB episode form.
  5. Lab analyte — Select the specific analyte that should appear on the OB episode form for this Result Type. This menu is populated based on the past 30 days of analytes that appear on a lab result matching the selected Clinical provider and Order type. If no activity has occurred within the past 30 days, this menu is empty.
    Note: If a lab sends a result with variations of the term “Non-Reactive” — with a hyphen omitted, with a space instead of a hyphen, as one word, or with different casing — athenaOne automatically selects Non-Reactive as the result, which prepopulates in the OB lab mapping section of the lab document.
    Note: If a lab returns a result of Non-Reactive but it isn't a result value expected, athenaOne prepopulates the result as Negative.
    Note: A lab result such as CBC W/ AUTO DIFF, may have multiple lab analytes that need to be mapped to corresponding result types (for example, MCV, HGB, HCT). Repeat the mapping steps for each analyte as needed.
  6. Click Add. The new mapping appears in the list.

 

 

 

 

 

 

On a specific lab result, the view report header link is visible on the top right of the interfaced lab result.

 

 

 

Please contact the CSC by selecting Support > Create Case or Call in the Main Menu, and open a case, highlighting the document ID number and the exact name of the performing lab.

 

 

 

Not every lab analyte value can be mapped due to the actual structure of the interface. Specifically:

  • A result comes back and has more than one line per lab analyte value. This may be due to addended notes fields on the lab analyte value line.
  • The lab analyte is text where mapping would require a number in athenaOne. For example, if a result comes back as "positive" or "negative," but athenaOne requires "0" or "1," no mapping is possible.
  • The result analyte doesn't match the text options required by athenaOne. For example, if the result comes back as "reactive" but the options for the result value are "positive" or "negative" in athenaOne, no mapping is possible.

If problems persist with specific lab results, please contact the CSC by selecting Support > Create Case or Call in the Main Menu to open a case, highlighting the document ID number and the specific values that cannot be mapped.

 

 

 

The result type menus are specifically formulated to meet the needs of ACOG. It is understandable that more information may be useful in certain circumstances. You can manually map any result value to the "Other" result type to make it visible on the patient's Prenatal Flowsheet section. To create an automatic mapping, complete a link between the lab analyte and the Result type option of "Other" on the OB Lab Result Mappings page.

The lab or imaging facility indicated on the order.
Order type The name of the test as it is ordered in athenaClinicals.
Result type

The requirement fulfilled by a particular test; the result type is used as the label on the OB episode form.

Lab analyte

Select the analyte that you want mapped and auto-populated on the OB episode form for this Result Type. This menu contains all analytes that appear for lab results coming from the selected Clinical provider and Order type, based on the lab results received within the past 30 days.

 

Note: If the menu is empty, no activity has occurred for the past 30 days. In this case, wait until your practice receives a lab result from the selected Clinical provider and Order type, and then return to this page to select the Lab analyte that you want to map.

 

Note: If you only recently started using the athenaClinicals service, you may have not yet received many lab results. This manual mapping process works for interfaced results as well as office order types (in-house labs); however, you need to use an office order type in an encounter before the analyte will appear in the menu.
Current Mappings
Clinical Provider The lab or imaging facility indicated on the order.
Clinical Order Type The name of the test as it is ordered in athenaClinicals.
Result Type The requirement fulfilled by a particular test.
Lab Analyte The element (value) to abstract from a lab/imaging result, which is based on the result type. The list of result types is maintained by athenahealth.
