User Guide — Nurse-Only Encounters
For office visits in which the patient need only see a nurse, such as an injection visit, you can map these appointment types to the nurse visit encounter layout.
Any appointment types mapped to the nurse visit layout include the five encounter stages, plus updated navigation to support the nurse-only workflow. The Procedure Documentation section and the Billing tab also appear in the Intake stage.
You must have the Clinicals Admin permission to access the Assign Appointment Types to Layouts page.
- In the schedule, click a nurse-only appointment that is "ready for staff" to display the briefing.
- Click the Go to Intake button.
Note: If your practice assigns a non-person provider (for example, Nurse Schedule) as the scheduling and rendering provider for nurse-only visits, you must update the rendering provider to a person before displaying the Intake page.- The RENDERING PROVIDER box appears.
- Search for and select a person provider.
- Click Go to Intake again.
- Document the encounter as you normally would.
- If you added orders and have delegate permission to sign orders, click Sign Orders in the Orders and Results section of Intake.
- Click the Billing tab and enter charges for the visit if that is part of your normal workflow.
- Click Ready for Checkout.
athenaOne moves the encounter to checkout and reassigns the encounter to the rendering provider. The home page reappears.
- Select the nurse-only encounter in your Clinical Inbox to display the briefing.
- Click Go to Exam.
The Sign-off section of the exam appears for you to review and close the encounter. - Review the encounter summary. You can also click Full Encounter Summary to view all encounter details.
Note: All exam sections are available, in case you need to edit the encounter. - If billing is part of your normal workflow, click the Billing tab to enter charges for the visit.
- Click Close or Sign & Close to close the encounter and return to the home page.
Before you can use this feature, you must map one or more appointment types to the nurse visit encounter layout using the Assign Appointment Types to Layouts page.
