Pharmacy Medication Preparation

You can use this page to review all orders, both verified and unverified.
Once an order has been verified (using the Pharmacy Verification page), the infusion details are visible in the expanded order view of the Pharmacy Medication Preparation page.
On the Main Menu, click Ancillaries. Under Pharmacy, click Medication Preparation
You must be logged in to a department that uses athenaOne for Hospitals & Health Systems, your facility must have the Inpatient Athena Pharmacy Medication Preparation feature enabled, and you must have the Inpatient Clinicals: Pharmacy Verification user permission to access this page.
All orders for IVs and compounded medications, including both verified and unverified orders, appear on the Pharmacy Medication Preparation page.
- Display the Pharmacy Medication Preparation page: On the Main Menu, click Ancillaries. Under Pharmacy, click Medication Preparation.
- Click the medication order to expand the details.
- Products — Select the packaged drug from the menu.
- In the box to the right of the Products menu, enter the quantity of the drug that was used to fulfill the order. In the menu to the right of the quantity box, select the appropriate unit of measure.
- To add products to the preparation, you can click the plus icon next to PRODUCT, below the packaged drug menu.
- Click COMPLETE in the bottom right corner to indicate that you prepared the order.
- Display the Pharmacy Medication Preparation page: On the Main Menu, click Ancillaries. Under Pharmacy, click Medication Preparation.
- Click the medication order to expand the details.
- Products — Select the select the products for the medication and diluent.
- Click COMPLETE in the bottom right corner to indicate that you prepared the order.
You can filter and sort preparations in the Medication Preparation Workspace. By default this page displays the preparations for the department you're logged in to. Using the new filters, you can add departments to the workspace.
You can change the filters at any time. Your filter selections appear the next time you log in. You can filter preparations by:
- Patient location, including department, unit, and room
- Verification status
- Preparation status
- Due time
You can sort preparations by:
- Due time
- Patient
- Medication
- Display the Pharmacy Medication Preparation page: On the Main Menu, click Ancillaries. Under Pharmacy, click Medication Preparation.
- Click FILTERS in the top left corner.
To filter by departments
- Departments — Check the box for the department.
athenaOne automatically checks the boxes next to all the department's units and rooms that appear on the right.
Note: You can check boxes for multiple departments.
To filter by unit and rooms
- Units and Rooms — This section appears automatically when you check the box for a department. To view the units and rooms of a different department, click DETAILS.
The units and rooms in that department appear in the right column. Clear the box for any units or rooms you don't want to view in your workspace.
Note: The Overflow filter includes all patients in the selected department who are either not assigned to a location or are assigned to a location you may have entered as free text. - Verification status — Select Verified or Unverified to filter by verification status.
Note: When this field is blank, all preparations appear in the workspace, regardless of verification status. - Preparation status — Select Prepared or Unprepared to filter by preparation status.
Note: When this field is blank, all preparations appear in the workspace, regardless of preparation status. - Due time — Check the box to filter preparations by time interval. Any preparations with a due time in the selected interval appear.
- Click Filter.
- Display the Pharmacy Medication Preparation page: On the Main Menu, click Ancillaries. Under Pharmacy, click Medication Preparation.
- Click the arrow next to View by:.
- Select Due time, Patient, or Medication to sort the preparation list.
