Batch Mappings
This page allows you to create an ordered list of error messages that you can use to correct the error with the most impact first. Batch mapping is very useful when your practice has a large number of messages in the Interface Message Queue Manager in ERROR status.
The page lists the exact error text from all your messages in order of frequency of occurrence, from most common to least common. It also lets you know how many occurrences of that error are present, and most importantly, provides a link for you to correct that error.

On the Main
Menu, click Settings > Practice Manager. In the left menu, under Practice Links — Interfaces, click Batch Mapping

You must have the Interface Admin: View Message Queue user permission to access this page.
To make edits on this page, you must have the following permissions:
- Interface Admin: Map Messages (except Insurances)
- Interface Admin: Map Insurance Messages

- Display the Batch Mappings page: On the Main
Menu, click Settings
> Practice Manager. In the left menu, under Practice Links — Interfaces, click Batch Mapping.
Filter the list of error messages
- Message status — Change the selection from ERROR to CBOERROR or blank to see other message states, if desired. In most cases, leave this field set to ERROR.
- ERROR (default) — Errors that the practice must fix
- CBOERROR — Errors that the CBO should fix (very rare)
- ATHENAERROR — Errors that athenahealth must fix (typically script or database failures)
- <blank> — Show all error types
- Interface Vendor — Select an interface vendor to restrict the error messages to that vendor, or leave blank to see errors for all interfaces.
Each individual interface is identified by a vendor name. This is typically the name of the EMR vendor, interface engine vendor or practice, or some other identifying characteristic of the interface. - Created between — Enter the from and to dates (dates are inclusive) to restrict the error messages to a particular date range, if desired.
- Message destination — Select IN to restrict errors to messages flowing IN to athenahealth. Select OUT to restrict errors to messages flowing OUT of athenahealth. Leave blank to see errors for messages flowing in either direction.
- Message Error Text — Enter message text to restrict the errors displayed to those containing the text you enter.
- Click Filter Messages to rescan the error list to match the criteria you specified.
Fix the errors or map as appropriate
- Correct individual errors by clicking the map or fix link at the end of the error. Each link opens a dialog box with information about the error and a request for one piece of information to resolve the error. When you enter the information and click Save in the dialog box, the error and/or its count is adjusted. Continue with the next error.
Hint: Use the error count to tackle the most common errors first. Note that map links correct all errors of that type at once, but fix links decrement the error count by only 1. - After you correct the errors, display the Interface Message Queue Manager page.
- Click Reprocess These Messages at the bottom of the list.

If all the error messages for your practice in ERROR status fit on one page, you may not need the Batch Mappings page to understand what you need to do.
Some errors do not contain a map or fix link. These errors must be cleared by entering data in other parts of athenaOne, or by deleting the message, fixing the message content on the original source system, and then causing the original source system to resend the message. Examples include a patient check-in message for a patient that does not exist in athenaOne, or a charge message with a procedure code that is not in the appropriate fee schedule.
The Batch Mappings page collects all the errors that currently appear in any message in ERROR status in the Interface Message Queue Manager into a single list, sorted by the error that appears most frequently. If you have a large number of messages in ERROR status, the Batch Mappings page helps you determine which errors to correct first to get the most effect for your effort.
