athenaOne for Hospitals & Health Systems
You can use this page to monitor your hospital's inpatient census. You can run reports that show patients admitted, discharged, or staying in your facility during a selected date range.

On the Main Menu, click Reports. Under General, click Census Wizard
You must be logged in to a department that uses athenaOne for Hospitals & Health Systems, and you must have the Report: Census Wizard user permission, included in the Report Reader role.
You can use the Census Wizard to calculate the daily census for your organization and monitor the patients in your facility from admission to discharge.
Using the Census Wizard, you can run the following types of reports:
- Current census — Identifies all patients who are currently in the hospital and where they're located
- Admission date — Identifies all patients who were admitted during a selected date range
- In hospital — Identifies all patients who were in the hospital during a selected date range
- Discharge date — Identifies all patients who were discharged from the hospital during a selected date range
- Display the Census Wizard: On the Main Menu, click Reports. Under General, click Census Wizard.
- Report type — Select Current census.
- Department — Defaults to All. Click Selected and select departments to report on only those departments.
Note: Only departments that admit patients yield census report data. - Split by level of care — Select this option if you want the report to include each patient's level of care, level of care start date, and level of care end date.
Note: If you select Split by level of care, the report cannot be sorted by room number, attending provider, nursing unit, or patient ID. - Sort by — Select how you want to sort the report information. You can sort by room number, attending provider, nursing unit, and patient ID.
Note: By default, athenaOne sorts the report by room number. - Report Format — Select a report format.
- Report Options — Select the Show filter criteria option to display the filter criteria in the report results.
- Click Run Report.
Column Name | Description |

Visit ID | The patient's visit ID number. |
Facility | The facility name. |
Unit | The inpatient unit. |
Room | The patient's room number in the format [room#-bed#]. |
Patient Name | The patient's first and last name. |
Patient ID | The patient's ID number. |
Age | The patient's age. |
Attending provider | The name of the patient's attending provider. |
Service | The specialty department administering service to the patient (for example, Med/Surg, Outpatient, Emergency, etc.). |
Length of stay | The patient's length of stay in days. |
Primary Dx description | The description of the patient's primary diagnosis. |
Level of Care |
The billable level of care (for example, swingbed, observation, inpatient, etc.). Note: This column appears only when you select the Split by level of care option. |
LOC Start date |
The level of care start date. Note: This column appears only when you select the Split by level of care option. |
LOC End date |
The level of care end date. Appears only when you select the Split by level of care option. |
Admit date | The patient's admission date. |
Admit level of care | The level of care at the time of admission. |
Admission source | The point of origin. |
- Display the Census Wizard: On the Main Menu, click Reports. Under General, click Census Wizard.
- Report type — Select Admission date.
- Admission start date — Enter or select the admission start date and time.
- Admission end date — Enter or select the admission end date and time.
- Admission source — Select All or Selected.
- Admission type — Select All or Selected.
- Admitting provider — Select All or Selected.
- Age at admission (years) — Enter an age range, or leave blank for any age.
- Split by level of care — Select this option if you want the report to include each patient's level of care, level of care start date, and level of care end date.
- Attending provider — Select All or Selected.
- Department — Select All or Selected.
Note: Only departments that admit patients yield census report data. - Admit Level of care — Select All or Selected.
- Operating provider — Select All or Selected.
- Primary insurance package — Select All or Selected.
- Primary insurance reporting category — Select All or Selected.
- Referring provider — Select All or Selected.
- Report Format — Select a report format.
- Report Options — Select the Show filter criteria option to display the filter criteria in the report results.
- Click Run Report.

Primary insurance IRC | The insurance reporting category of the patient's primary insurance. |
Admission type | The type of admission. |

- Display the Census Wizard: On the Main Menu, click Reports. Under General, click Census Wizard.

- Date range — Enter or select the date range for the report.
- Split by level of care — Select this option if you want the report to include each patient's level of care, level of care start date, and level of care end date.
- Department — Select All or Selected.

- Admitting provider — Select All or Selected.
- Consulting provider — Select All or Selected.
- Room — Select All or Selected.
- Bed — Select All or Selected.
- Unit — Select All or Selected.
- Primary diagnosis — Select All or Selected.
- Length of stay (days) — Enter a range, or leave blank for any stay length.
- Service — Select All or Selected.
- Patient age (years) — Enter an age range, or leave blank for any age.
- Level of care — Select All or Selected.
- Condition — Select All or Selected.
- Primary nurse — Select All or Selected.
- Report Format — Select a report format.
- Report Options — Select the Show filter criteria option to display the filter criteria in the report results.
- Click Run Report.

- Discharge provider — Select All or Selected.
- Discharge to — Select All or Selected.
- Length of stay (days) — Enter a range, or leave blank for any length of stay.

- Report Format — Select a report format.

- Click Run Report.
