Schedule Resource Types
athenaOne for Hospitals & Health Systems
This page allows you to administer scheduling resource types for your practice.
A scheduling resource type is a set of providers or resources that, for scheduling purposes, are interchangeable. Scheduling resource types are used for multi-resource scheduling. Scheduling resource types appear on these pages:
- Providers page (Scheduling resource type menu)
- Multi-Resource Scheduling page (Provider / Resource menu)
On the Main Menu, click Settings > Schedule. In the left menu, under Practice Links — Providers, click Scheduling Resource Types
To view this page, your practice must have the Multi-Resource practice setting enabled by an athenahealth employee.
- Display the Schedule Resource Types page: On the Main Menu, click Settings > Schedule. In the left menu, under Practice Links — Providers, click Scheduling Resource Types.
- Click Add new.
- Name — Enter a name for the resource type (required).
- Notes — Enter any notes about the resource type (optional).
- Parent Resource Type — Select the resource that will be a parent to this resource (optional).
Note: All schedule resource types are equal in athenaOne. The concept of a subtype refers only to the relationship that two types have with each other. You create a parent-child relationship between two types when you select a parent type from the Parent Resource Type menu. The subtype is not a standalone classification of the provider, but rather a sub-classification of the primary schedule resource type. - Click Save.
A message appears stating that you successfully added the resource type, and the resource type appears in the Schedule Resource Types list.
Important: The new scheduling resource type does not appear in the Provider / Resource menu on the Multi-Resource Scheduling page until you attach at least one provider to it using the Providers page.
- Display the Schedule Resource Types page: On the Main Menu, click Settings > Schedule. In the left menu, under Practice Links — Providers, click Scheduling Resource Types.
- Locate the scheduling resource type in the list.
- Click the edit link. The fields for the scheduling resource type appear.
- Edit fields as desired.
- Click Save to update the type, or click Cancel to revert to the original data.
- Display the Schedule Resource Types page: On the Main Menu, click Settings > Schedule. In the left menu, under Practice Links — Providers, click Scheduling Resource Types.
- Locate the scheduling resource type in the list.
- Click the delete link.
The deleted scheduling resource type appears disabled in the list. (To restore a scheduling resource type, click the undelete link.)
Note: If you delete a scheduling resource type, it is also removed from the Provider / Resource menu on the Multi-Resource Scheduling page.
Your practice maintains these resource types and subtypes. You can organize resource types and their subtypes around standard taxonomy codes or any other vocabulary that you choose.
Example for use:
Create a scheduling resource type of LPN. On the Providers page, select LPN from the Scheduling resource type menu for each licensed practical nurse in your practice. (This action adds LPN to the Provider / Resource menu on the Multi-Resource Scheduling page.)
As a result, when you use the Multi-Resource Scheduling page to search for appointment slots with LPN selected from the Provider / Resource menu, the search criteria includes all providers that you set up with LPN as their Scheduling resource type.
