Checkout Stage
Checkout is the fifth and final stage of the 5-stage patient encounter.
The Checkout page presents you with two tabs. The first tab is the Patient tab. The best practice is to complete all checkout stage actions before the patient leaves the office.
In the Checkout stage, the Patient banner shows that Check-in has been completed and that the current state of the encounter is Ready for Staff.
The Initial view of the Checkout page has two tabs: Patient and Claim: Charge Entry. Enter charges for the claim and click Create Claim.
Cancelling checkout
If you accidentally start checkout for a patient, click Cancel Checkout at the bottom of the Checkout page. When you cancel checkout, the visit reverts to the last complete stage, and the appointment status in the schedule reverts to its previous status. For example, if a patient completed the Intake stage when you started checkout, cancelling checkout returns the patient to the Intake stage and changes the appointment status from Ready for checkout to Ready for provider.
Note: The Cancel Checkout link appears only if at least one of the previous stages was skipped when you started checkout.
Click the Patient tab
- If the provider requests it, schedule another appointment.
- If the provider requests it, create an appointment reminder.
- If the provider requests it, add a chart check — chart checks are typically created based on notes written by the provider on the encounter form (e.g., "call patient with lab results").
- If the provider requests it, create an outgoing referral.
- Collect a payment (if not done previously).
- If the provider requests
it, create an OB episode (if your practice has the OB feature enabled).
After you create an OB episode, the patient banner displays the following information about the episode: gravidity and parity, duration of pregnancy expressed as "weeks.days," estimated date of delivery (EDD), and blood type.
Note: If your practice has different chart sharing groups, the OB episode information appears only when viewing the patient chart with the open OB episode.
