Pending Formulary Updates
athenaOne for Hospitals & Health Systems
When First Databank (FDB) makes changes that affect the formulary, you can see a list of those changes on the Pending Formulary Updates page. This page lists each change so that you can update the relationship between the FDB change and the formulary.

On the Main Menu, click Settings > Clinicals. In the left menu,under Practice Links — Pharmacy, click Pending Formulary Updates.
On the Formulary Management page, click VIEW PENDING FORMULARY UPDATES.

You must be logged in to a department that uses athenaOne for Hospitals & Health Systems and use athenaPharmacy.
You must have the Inpatient Clinicals: Formulary Management permission.

Display the Pending Formulary Updates page:
On the Main Menu, click Settings
> Clinicals. In the left menu,under Practice Links — Pharmacy, click Pending Formulary Updates.
Or, from the Formulary Management page, click VIEW PENDING FORMULARY UPDATES.
- Updates to Packaged Drug : Dispensable relationship — Click download this table to a .CSV to save a copy of the FDB changes.
Once you accept a change, the formulary is no longer pending, so it doesn't appear on the Pending Formulary Updates page.
Review each FDB change to a packaged drug to see how it affects the dispensable drug in the formulary
- Packaged Drug (NDC) — Drug name and National Drug Code
- Currently Links to — Dispensable drug the NDC links to in the formulary until you accept the change
- Will Link to (Replacing the Current Linking) — Dispensable drug the NDC links to in the formulary after you accept the change
- Notes — Details about the change when applicable:
- Configuration to review in the formulary
- Impact of the change
- Number of active orders the change affects if it causes an Orderable to become off formulary
Accept a change for a packaged drug (NDC)
Important: You must download the Updates to Packaged Drug : Dispensable relationship table (step 2) before proceeding.
- Select the change in the left column.
- Click Accept Updates.
athenaOne updates the Formulary Management page.

- Updates to Dispensable : Orderable relationship — Click download this table to a CSV to save a copy of the FDB changes.
Once you accept a change, the formulary is no longer pending, so it doesn't appear on the Pending Formulary Updates page.
Review the changes to each dispensable drug to see how it affects the orderable drug in the formulary
- Dispensable — Drug in the formulary
- Will No Longer Link to — Drug that will no longer be dispensable after you accept the change
- Notes — Details about the change when applicable, which can include:
- Impact of the change
- Number of active orders the change affects if it causes an Orderable to become off formulary
Accept a change to a dispensable drug
Important: You must download the Updates to Dispensable Drug : Orderable relationship table (step 2) before proceeding.
- Select the change in the left column.
- Click Accept Updates.
athenaOne updates the Formulary Management page. -
Click OK to confirm the selected changes:
Note: If you accept a change to a Packaged Drug : Dispensable relationship, you see that in the confirmation.

The First Databank (FDB) updates content every Sunday. We suggest that you check the Pending Formulary Updates page weekly to see if their updates affect your formulary.
Note: When no weekly updates affect your formulary, you see No items found on the Pending Formulary Updates page.
