Documents Likely to Include HbA1c Results Report
athenaClinicals + athenaClinicals for Hospitals & Health Systems
The Documents Likely to Include HbA1c Results report allows you to identify lab result documents that likely contain HbA1c lab analytes which can be entered as structured data to meet quality measures. This is especially useful to anyone who needs to report on quality measures for Diabetes Hemoglobin A1c Control.
Note: This report includes only lab result documents that were identified through the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) system, which is currently limited to faxed, scanned, or uploaded documents.
Display the Report Library: On the Main Menu, click Reports. Under General, click Report Library. Click the Clinicals tab. In the Standard Reports section of the tab, click run next to Documents Likely to Include HbA1c Results.

The Documents Likely to Include HbA1c Results report allows you to identify lab result documents that likely contain HbA1c lab analytes which can be entered as structured data to meet quality measures.
The athenaOne system calculates your A1c measures based on data entered in your patients’ Lab Results or Flowsheets. It specifically looks for values with the Analyte name containing “A1c” (for example: A1c, HbA1c, Hemoglobin A1c).
- Lab results received via interface will automatically have Analytes and Values entered as Lab Results.
- Other lab results, such as faxed, scanned or uploaded documents, must have the analytes manually entered by a member of your staff.
Ensuring that all Hemoglobin A1c test results are entered with “A1c” as the analyte name improves the accuracy of your A1c measures.
The athenaOne system searches your clinical documents for possible HbA1c results using this process:
- Find clinical documents that are document class = LABRESULT, are not deleted, and have been run through the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) system (which is completed for any documents received via fax or uploaded/scanned into the system).
- Send them through a machine learning model which predicts whether each document contains a valid HbA1c result or not.
- Provide the list of documents in the new report: Documents Likely to Include HbA1c Results.
Using the report, you can enter missing A1c analytes and values and correct A1c results that may have been entered inconsistently, improving your practice’s ability to meet A1c quality measures.
Note:
- The report includes all documents that already have an A1c lab analyte recorded and those that likely have an A1c result, but do not yet have an A1c lab analyte recorded.
- If you enter a new lab analyte manually on a document, this information will appear in the Documents Likely to Include HbA1c Results and also any relevant quality measure reporting in the next 24-48 hours.
