User Guide — Healthwise Patient Information Sheets
athenaClinicals includes patient educational content from Healthwise, an industry leader that provides easy-to-understand, current, and detailed information about a vast array of medical conditions. These patient information sheets are ready-made, peer-reviewed educational content that you can give to your patients as printed information sheets, without needing to create or upload content yourself. Healthwise patient information orders are indicated by the word Healthwise at the end of the order name.
To locate, print, and sign Healthwise patient information orders
- In the Exam stage of the patient encounter, click A/P in the navigation bar.
- Click the plus icon
next to Diagnoses & Orders.
Diagnoses and orders you select are added to the D&O cart. - Search for and select the patient information handout.
- Click outside the selector to close it.
- Click the patient information order to display the details and click View Handout to open the handout.
- To print the handout, click the Print button. Click Back to return the A/P section.
- Click Sign Orders.
After you sign a patient information order, the order moves to Close status.
Note: From the Patient tab of the Checkout stage, you can view information orders and whether they were already printed, and you can print the order from the Patient tab.
Features and workflows
In partnership with Healthwise, athenahealth provides patient education information that you can order in the Assessment / Plan section. athenahealth has identified many of the most commonly used diagnoses and selected a relevant patient education handout to associate with each one. These handouts are added to the orders section of the Assessment / Plan section automatically when providers add one of these diagnoses to the encounter.
Note: If the Language field on the patient's Quickview is set to Spanish, patient information orders are generated in Spanish, if available.
To enable automatic ordering of relevant patient education handouts, providers can set the Recommend patient info orders user preference on the User Preferences page.
