Admission/Discharge Report
The Admission/Discharge Report allows you to view Admission, Discharge, and Transfer (ADT) notifications that hospitals sent to your practice using the Direct Messaging secure network, and it automatically closes related Clinical Inbox tasks. This report helps providers stay up to date on their patients’ hospitalizations without creating more work for them in the Clinical Inbox.
Display the Report Library: On the Main Menu, click Reports. Under General, click Report Library. Click the Clinicals tab. In the Standard Reports section of the tab, click run next to Admission/Discharge Report.
To access reports on the Clinicals tab of the Report Library, you must have the Clinicals user permission and the Report: Report Library: Clinicals permission. The Report: Report Library: Clinicals permission is included in the following roles:
- Practice Superuser role
- Report Reader role
To activate the Admission/Discharge Report, you must have the Report: Custom Reports Activate permission.
Before you can run this report, you must:
- Activate the Admission/Discharge Report on the Activate Reports page.
- Opt in to automatically close tasks in the Clinical Inbox:
Contact the CSC by selecting Support > Create Case or Call in the Main Menu.
- Display the Report Library: On the Main Menu, click Reports. Under General, click Report Library.
- Click the Clinicals tab.
- Click run next to Admission/Discharge Report in the Standard Reports section of the tab.
The Run Report: Admission/Discharge Report page appears. - Date Range — Enter the start and end dates for the ADT notifications that you want to include in the report, or select a date range from the menu.
- Event type — To report on specific types of ADT events, click Selected and then select ADT events from the list.
- Department — To report on documents associated with specific departments only, click Selected and then select the departments from the list.
- Report Format — Select the format for your report results.
- HTML table — Display the report results on your screen.
- Text (tab-delimited) — Export the report results to a .csv file in tab-delimited format.
- Text (comma-delimited) — Export the report results to a .csv file in comma-delimited format.
- Report Options — Select report options.
- Suppress Column Headings — Select this option to remove column headings from the report results.
- Suppress Report Name — Select this option to remove the report name from the report results.
- Show Filter Criteria — Select this option to include your selected filter criteria in the report results.
- Run Offline (will appear in your Report Inbox tomorrow morning) — Select this option for very long reports. Reports that are run offline appear in your Report Inbox the morning after the request.
- Click Run Report.
In the report results, you can click any column heading to sort the table by that column.

Run the Admission/Discharge Report.

Click the link in the Document ID column.
The record opens in a new Internet browser tab.
Note: The History section shows that the athenaOne system automatically closed the document in the Clinical Inbox because the notification now appears in the report.
When a hospital sends Admission, Discharge, and Transfer (ADT) notifications to the athenaOne system by Direct Messaging, you can run the Admission/Discharge Report to:
- List the ADT notifications
- View the documents associated with the ADT events
- Close related tasks in the Clinical Inbox
You specify the period of time and, optionally, the departments to include in the report. The athenaOne system automatically closes each Clinical Document – Admission/Discharge Summary task in the Clinical Inbox when the task appears in the Admission/Discharge Report.
To help keep your Clinical Inbox more manageable, the athenaOne system closes each Clinical Document – Admission/Discharge Summary task in the Inbox that meets the following criteria:
- The task was sent by Direct Messaging
- The task appears in the Admission/Discharge Report
Only documents that meet the following criteria are included in the Admission/Discharge Report:
- Was sent by Direct Messaging
- Is associated with an athenaOne patient chart for your practice
- Is associated with a LOINC code for ADT messages
- Meets the criteria you selected when running the report

Time of Event | The date the athenaOne system received the ADT message, which is usually the date of the hospital admission, discharge, or transfer. |
Document ID | The document ID links to the document associated with the notification sent by Direct Messaging ADT. |
